- Heysham Port – An ideal location with excellent transport links to the M6, offering a fast, efficient access to the Irish Sea and perfectly placed as a distribution hub serving the Isle of Man, Ireland and mainland UK.
- Liverpool Port- sited on both banks of the River Mersey in a strategic vantage point within the North West of the United Kingdom. The port benefits from direct links to the M53, M57, M62 and M6 (M58) motorways.
OPERATIONS
J M Gorry & Son Ltd have a dedicated operations team based in our Morecambe office in control of all routes. Our operations team is equipped to handle all calls, enquiries and ETAs. We also provide arrival time reports to all our customers for peace of mind. Our operations team has many years of experience and we offer professional, skilled levels of knowledge in all areas of transport and haulage.
TRACTION ONLY HAULAGE
For clients wishing to provide their own trailers, J M Gorry & Son Ltd. offer traction-only trunking. We supply and operate the vehicles – you supply the trailers. We offer an unrivalled service when it comes to providing traction or trunking. This enables us to cater for all sizes of business and most volumes. This service is offered day or night and Nationwide. Our fleet includes over 39 top of the range Volvo vehicles which enable us to offer regular contracts or one-off vehicles to our customers.

Vehicle Maintenance
J M Gorry & Son Ltd also operate a fully equipped commercial vehicle workshop, complete with our very own vehicle repairs and maintenance team. All our vehicles are regularly maintained to comply with the legal guidelines set out by VOSA. Our fully skilled and trained technicians are VOSA approved and carry out safety inspections on our entire fleet on a regular basis.
- Maintenance Schedule
To ensure our vehicle fleet is as up-to-date and as safe as it can possibly be, we stick to a clear maintenance plan and schedule using the latest planning software. This not only allows us to keep our own fleet of vehicles up-to-date, but also allows us to offer a full vehicle schedule, paperwork and office service to any of our customers. Our schedule consists of the following:
- Daily overall vehicle checks by the driver
- Fault reports
- Routine safety inspections
- Periodic servicing adhering to manufacturer’s guidelines
- Annual test preparation

The brake tester is used to measure components of the braking system and ensure everything is working correctly – it measures the following; Ovality, Bind, Braking Efficiency which equates to a percentage and following guidelines will tell the operator whether the braking system is working correctly or not.
Commercial brake testing is part of the annual MOT test for vehicles and is one of the most common reasons for vehicles failing on MOT’s. DVSA have also released publication in November 2018 that emphasises the importance of regular brake testing in the UK.
The Everquip brake tester measures the following braking procedures;
- Service Brake
- Secondary Brake
- Park Brake
Dependent on whether the tyres lock out or achieve the correct kgf percentage will denote whether a vehicle passes or fails, unless it is a tri-axle semi-trailer which then has to also meet the ULTAST testing requirements to ensure a pass result.

With J M Gorry & Son Ltd you can rest assured our mechanics team are able to effectively take care of all maintenance and commercial vehicle repair duties. We have invested heavily into our workshop equipment and will continue to do so, to ensure vehicles are maintained to the highest standard.

Our maintenance team consists of fully qualified vehicle technicians, all VOSA trained and accredited in HGV/PSV standards and procedures. This allows our technicians to inspect, service and repair vehicles to the highest of standards. We continuously invest in our training and all technicians are conversant with all vehicle systems.
